Parts to a Waterbed

Waterbeds generally contain several universal parts; the bladder is located in the mattress and holds the water. The Waterbed Mattress is usually made out of a vinyl or some other plastic or PVC. The Waterbed is surrounded by a liner which is a safety precaution against leaks and spills. These liners go in the frame which holds the mattress in place while keeping its shape. The heater sits under the Liner resting on top of the deck and provides heat to the mattress and helps regulate temperature per the user’s preference. Modern heaters are made with temperature sensors to ensure that they are safe. All of these parts rest on top of the pedestal which acts as the foundation for the mattress, these come in many heights and styles.

Hard-Side Waterbeds

A Hard-Side Waterbed is a water filled mattress resting in wooden frame. It is usually a vinyl, water-filled mattress that may also contain some type of wave-reduction system within its one or two bladders. Hard-Side waterbed frames tend to be more decorative, offering elaborate headboards or tall posts. These usually fit "naturally" into the existing design of a bedroom.

Soft-Side Waterbeds

A Soft-Side Waterbed is a Water Filled Mattress inside a rectangular frame of sturdy foam, surrounded by a fabric cover. The purpose is to make it appear like a traditional mattress, it will even fit into most traditional bed frames, and the mattress follows traditional bed sizes. The soft-side waterbed platform tends to look like a traditional foundation or box spring, and sits atop a stronger metal frame.
