Recorded live at WQIV, New York, New York in 1975.
One of the most popular Relix Records/Hot Tuna live albums remains their initial release, 1984's SPLASHDOWN. Taken from a WQIV-FM, New York, radio broadcast acoustic performance (originally aired on July 25, 1975, it was around the same time the Apollo-Soyuz joint U.S.-U.S.S.R. space mission was ending), SPLASHDOWN is about as stripped down and basic as Hot Tuna has ever gotten, featuring just guitarist/singer Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady. Featuring almost entirely folk and blues standards, standouts include "Death Don't Have No Mercy," "I Know You Rider," "Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning," "Candy Man," "Embryonic Journey," and the title track. SPLASHDOWN remains one of Hot Tuna's most intimate and personal recordings, easily rivaling their classic 1969 self-titled debut.
