Do your spirits or your closet need brightening? You'll have a hard time finding anything better than this one-of-a-kind top! The fabric is soft kikoy material with a lovely drape. The candy colored stripes are punctuated with fun fringe. And the back sports the trendy Shanzu label. If you need any more convincing, there are those deep and utilitarian pockets. Best of all, it's a Fair Trade product, so your logical side can agree with your emotional desire to indulge!
The dashiki originated in Africa as a man’s shirt at first. It took various forms, including the grand boubou for formal occasions. However, as is true with all great ideas, it was discovered by the rest of the world and is now enjoyed by people of many genders, ages, and cultural origins. Its loose, comfortable fit works on almost any body type. It can be dressed up or down. And it’s just plain fun to wear!
This dashiki was made in 100% kikoy cotton. The kikoy or kikoi is usually a larger piece of cloth used as a "wrapper," skirt, top, carrier, and just about anything that is needed at the moment. In this case, your wardrobe needed a bit of brightening, so here it is to save the day! What's really wonderful, is that this is completely unique and handmade by a member of Shanzu, a cooperative which trains disabled Kenyan women and gives them a market for their new skills. Your purchase directly helps Rehema M. or Elinah. We love that the tag includes the name of the seamstress!
