This collection features selections from the remarkable 50-year career of poet Ruth Stone, and it brilliantly showcases the expansive trajectory of her work. While Stone has found success relatively late in her career, spawned by her 2002 National Book Award Winner IN THE NEXT GALAXY, this anthology shows that the passion and acute perception which marks her more recent work has always been present in her poetry. In her early poems, Stone explored a variety of forms as she expressed her views on social issues such as class, politics, and feminism, with uncanny elegance and startling insight. Her later work segues into more introspective verse on aging and loss, including her incisive thoughts on her gradually dimming sense of vision. Stone, who was 93 years old at the time of this publication, was a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for poetry for WHAT LOVE COMES TO.
