 How to fix Canon A5xx series camera with lens issue?

- Remove 7-10 screws from the casing. Some models have screws inside the battery compartment or are only accessible after the back cover is removed (like A540).
- Remove LCD, Main PCB and tri-pod mount, detach the flash and optical view finder from lens.
- Remove the lens, remove the 5 screws on back of the lens, remove the retaining spring for view finder driving shaft.
- Lift the back of the lens open gently, use tweezers to take out the possible bad gear #4 or #5. Desolder the shutter/motor/position sensor flex if need full access to the lens well to service gears or other damage to the lens.

Repeat the steps backward to install fixed lens back in. A friendly reminder:

- Be gentle a careful during the whole process, especially when handling the flex.
- Keep removed screws labeled, draw diagram if needed.
- Be cautious when handling the flash, there may be charge left in the capacitor, which can be discharged with a 10K ohm resistor.
- The repair may void the warranty, buyer take full responsibility in handling the repairs. This is ONLY a quick memo and nothing is guaranteed beyond that.
