design by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky for the White enamelled metal. The seat height is adjustable by means of an integral screw concealed within the
strut beneath the seat. This Bauhaus inspired design is extremely
similar to an example included in a lot from a kitchen suite from a Frankfurter
Küche (Frankfurt Kitchen) sold by Sotheby’s Designed in tandem with
Ernest May's gargantuan Frankfurt modernist housing project of the mid-1920s,
Margerete Schutte-Lihotsky's functionalist modular fitted kitchen was a true
landmark in domestic design. The Kitchen was recently showcased in
the major Dimensions: Height: Maximum approx. 61
cm / Minimum about 48 cm Seat diameter: approx. 32
cm Condition: Excellent used condition
with minimal signs of age and use. There is a little expected minor wear to the lacquer in
places and no significant damages. From the condition I estimate that this example dates from the 1940s or 50s but it may be earlier. The piece is highly decorative and
functional and will look stunning given a new lease of life in the right
setting. The stool has a doctor’s previous owner’s signature inscribed on the
underside – interestingly the Sotheby’s example also had a medical connection,
