Iron is a big source of problems in water supplies, causing red discolored water, red or reddish-brown staining and sometimes giving the water a metallic taste.

Sulfur is frequently associated with iron, and can easily be recognized by the rotten egg smell it gives the water.

Manganese is sometimes found in water contaminated with iron or sulfur, and is usually identifiable by black, slimy staining and the smell of rotting vegetation.

With this system you can get rid of all three problems with one single unit. Pyrolox media is a naturally mined ore that oxidizes the iron, sulfur, and manganese, allowing it to be trapped by the dense media bed. The density of the Pyrolox media also allows it to work well as a general sediment and turbidity filter.

With no chemicals to add and an automatic backwashing control head, this system cuts maintenance down to a minimum!

Using a #1 USA rated Fleck control head maintenance is simple. All you have to do is program the current time of day, set up the backwash cycle (at least once every 3 days) and your set to go!

As with any iron filter, pH is a key factor, a minimum pH of 6.3 is required for efficient removal of these contaminates, if your pH is lower ask us about our pH neutralizing Calcite filters.

Due to the density of the Pyrolox media please ensure you have an adequate flow rate for proper back flushing of the system. If you have lower flow rates contact us for other solutions to your iron, sulfur or manganese problem or see our Air Injection systems.

*Important Flow Rate Information

Service Flow Rate - The rate (in gallons per minute) at which the media can effectively treat your water. Service flow rates for Pyrolox are given in a range. The lower number is the manufacturers recommend rates, the higher number is actual rates that we have had successful treatment. Please note that most systems will allow a higher flow rate through them than the media can treat, so should your water demands exceed the systems capabilities some of the water will pass through untreated. NOTE: Higher contaminate levels are more effectively treated at lower flow rates. Thus, with higher contaminate levels you can expect lower treatable flow rates. Backwash Flow Rate - The minimum rate (in gallons per minute) that needs to be available for proper backwashing of the system. Backwash flow rates for Pyrolox systems are given in a range. The lower number is the manufacturers recommend rate, the higher number is the rate that has been successfully used. This is not a constant rate, your water source just needs to be capable of supplying the shown rate for backwash. NOTE: Higher contaminate levels require higher flow rates for backwash. Thus, with higher contaminate levels it is recommended to have the manufacturers recommended backwash rates.
