The gold fever of the mid-19th century that spurred people from all over the world to travel to the American west in search of riches left many an abandoned settlement in its wake. Left to gather dust when the gold gave out--or was never found--these lost villages stand frozen in time as testaments to American history. Made by the History Channel in cooperation with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, this installment of the Save our History series travels to Montana and northern California, visiting ghost towns created during the gold rush and the railroad boom. Bodie, California, provides a quintessential example of the haunting nature of these historical relics, where the excitement of the prospectors is evident in hastily constructed structures that have nonetheless withstood the tests of time. Archive and location footage is combined with expert interviews to give voice to this essential chapter in American history.

This is an excellent History Channel production on the frontier "ghost towns" of the Old West.  These once booming centers of activity would spring up to service the gold rush surge of miners & profiteers that would come whenever a big strike was discovered.  The DVD features ghost towns in both Northern California & Montana providing both archival material, original footage, and fascianting interviews on the gold rush & these remote ghost towns.  The DVD is produced by the History Channel as part of their highly acclaimed Save Our History Series and is titled "Gold Rush Ghost Towns" - the DVD is new and still factory sealed!  The retail price of the DVD is $24.95.  The DVD has an approx. running time of 50 minutes.  An excellent DVD on the great western gold rushes & the many ghost towns to rise and fall in their wake.  Shipping via First Class Mail is $2.95.
