 An early 19th century set of Robertson's classic work on ancient history.

With engraved portrait of Robertson in Vol I

Good to fair

The bindings are rubbed, with slight wear to the heads and feet of the spines.

Gorgeous gilt design with four raised bands on each
Vol III front board split but hanging on, rear board is almost detached, only just hanging on.

Internally, there are some very occasional touches of light foxing, but generally the contents are very clean and sharp throughout

William Robertson
Birth: Sep 21, 1721
Death: Jun 11, 1793
Historian and theologian. Born at Borthwick Manse in Midlothian, the son of Rev. William Robertson. He received his education at Dalkeith Grammar School, Married (1751) to Mary Nisbet, with whom he had three sons. Ordained minister of Gladsmuir in 1743. Joint minister, with Dr. Erskine, of Greyfriars, Edinburgh (1761-1793). Principal of the University of Edinburgh (1762-1793).
In 1761 he was appointed royal chaplain, and in 1764 he became the King's Historiographer.
