Pages are now a mid-ivory color; paper is very smooth, good stock. Many photos throughout chapters along with several detailed drawings. The photos/illustrations are all printed in grass-green and white; all are captioned and have a long "description" printed beneath the caption, all this text is in green - all other text pages are printed in black.

Pages 52-53, facing pages, have old, small piece of lined paper with notes about chickens, sheet has caused light brown square on both pages. There is an additional loose paper at back cover which also has handwritten notes, both papers are left in book.

Book consists of 193 numbered pages, the many photo pages are not numbered. Book has been widely opened in many pages leaving the cord binding exposed a bit, not loose; here are the area where cracks/separations have occured: illustration page and page 149; illustration and 127; 128 and illustration; 120 and illustration with heavy split; illustration and 111 with heavy split; heavy split between photo page and chapter title page; 48 and 49 with heavy split; illustration and 31. Pages from illustration page (after page 120) through illustration page (before page 129) are separated at bottom cord with above 4 cords still holding okay. Pages 73-79 are separated at top cord. Several other areas where pages are separated from top or bottom cord and few other short cracks. Pages have few light use spots. Pages 57-58 have 1" jagged, closed tear at front edge.

Deep red covers (my photo may show a bit too brightly) with gilt title on front and on spine; title on front has wear in the U and D of JUDGING, title on spine is very dulled because spine has aged to a red-brown color. Spine ends thin with small tears. Cover edges with light wear, cover tips have been bumped with bit of wear at points - tips still look good. Few small soil spots on front cover, few small, dark spots on back cover. Leaf edges are uneven at front from the page binding being stressed, top leaf edge is a bit shelf/age soiled, front and bottom leaf edges with slight soil. Book measures 6.0x8.75, there is no dust jacket.
