The Glory Guys; young adventurers, wild hooligans, drunken rebels...these raw cavalry recruits are all these things, but most importantly, they are human beings who are facing the ultimate sacrifice. Captain Harrod (Tom Tryon) understands this and can see that the blindly ambitious General McCabe is leading them towards a fate that none of them deserve, even that troublesome hell raiser, Dugan (James Caan).

 

Torn between loyalty to his men and obedience, Harrod also finds himself engaged in a bitter rivalry with Sol Rogers (Harve Presnell) for the heart of frontiers woman Lou Woodard (Senta Beger). Inevitably, affairs of the heart must be put aside as his ill prepared men receive their orders and are forced to face their destiny on the battlefield.
