A very nice Canon A35F #B22357 35mm rangefinder camera, with the Canon 40mm f2.8 lens, and the original camera strap. Circa 1978. This is essentially the last model of the highly regarded Canon Canonet series of cameras. I believe it's the first, and last, of the metal bodied Canonet's to feature a built in flash. Not many of these excellent cameras were sold due to unfortunate timing. In 1979 Canon introduced the first of it's Sure Shot Auto focus Cameras, and the race to produce inexpensive plastic bodied Point and Shoot cameras was on. Sales of rangefinder cameras declined almost as rapidly as film cameras did when Digital arrived.
The camera displays beautifully. The few minor flaws are not readily visible in a typical display setting. There are a couple of very small dings on the top plate. There's a small dent on the top right side behind the strap lug. There are 3 small paint chips on the right side of the base plate. The strap is partially torn by the metal rings that secure them. That's about it. None of these very minor flaws jumps out at you. Most are really not noticeable to the unaided eye unless you move the camera around to look for them. Not too bad for a 30+ year old camera. I would say it shows nominal signs of usage. It looks to me to be a 9, to 9+, out of 10.
I've loaded the flash battery with a fresh AA. The meter battery is a 625A Alkaline and is working fine, though I'm not sure how old it is. I've tested all of the functions, and everything is functioning like new. I did NOT run a test roll of film through it, but from many years of buying, selling, and using cameras, I can verify almost all functions work properly without the need of running a test roll. The one area that might possibly be a problem is the light seals. They are mildly deteriorated, which is quite common, but I seriously doubt it does leak due to the excellent design. If there should be a light leak, kits are available and easy to apply. The lens glass is perfect. No scratches, cleaning marks, haze, or fungus. The viewfinder is bright and clear. The rangefinder looks to be in the ballpark, as do shutter speeds, and aperture. There is no oil on the shutter blades. Please note that the meter will be active whenever light strikes the CDS cell. In use, the camera should be stored in a dark space, or with a lens cap on it. I don't have a cap for it right now, but should I come across one I will include it.
