| First Edition; authored by Austin Craig; Subtitled: Philippine Patriot; published in Manila by the Philippine Education Company in 1913; contains 286 pages with 118 illustrations; hardcover in overall good condition, but a person unknown by us Hess Booksellers has drawn a few human profile sketches in it. It has been refurbished but all its photos and pages are intact. Dr. Jose Rizal (1860-1896) was a Filipino-Chinese medical doctor who was inadvertently drawn into his country's war for independence in the mid-1890s from long-term, three century colonial rule by Spain (1560s to 1890s). He actually felt that his Filipino countrymen were not as yet ready for that independence but two autobiographical novels penned by him as a student in Spain in the late 1880s convinced them that he was a rebel leader. This led to his execution in Manila on December 30, 1896. American rule (1899-1946) saw statues of him proliferate throughout the Philippines with American sponsorship. Note: Of all the Rizal books we have in our possession, this is Ceferina's No. 1 favorite--complete in family background information and unique photos and facsimiles of Rizal's signatures. Also used by her as the most authentic source of research papers she wrote for professional conferences. Enjoy! |
