Album notes
ONE DEAD MAN AGO offers 33 tracks of honky-tonk history as made by Jimmie Skinner. With his deep voice, raw singing style, and rough-edged, unadorned sound, Skinner made some of the finest hard-country recordings of the 1950s for Capitol, Decca, Mercury, and others, and the best of those sides are included here. The roots of rockabilly can be heard in some of Skinner's gritty, bluesy recordings, often featuring distinctive electric mandolin work. ONE DEAD MAN AGO provides a much-needed spotlight on a country hero in danger of being overlooked.
