Part far-Eastern revivalism and part jazz fusion, Lalo Schifrin's memorable score to 1973's Bruce Lee epic ENTER THE DRAGON firmly stands the test of time; not only as a legacy to Bruce Lee as an action-movie star, but also to Schifrin's aptitude as an action-film score composer. Following a string of successes with COOL HAND LUKE, DIRTY HARRY, and the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE television series, Schifrin went one step further by integrating rock and soul music motifs into ENTER THE DRAGON to create a rousing musical backdrop to one of the most successful martial arts films of all time. ENTER THE DRAGON laid the foundation for future Asian-American action film scores with its heavy use of strings, Asian scales, and an array of percussion instruments. Schifrin's experimentation throughout the ENTER THE DRAGON score would directly influence his own work on the RUSH HOUR film series.
