Are the sides on that piece straight, MissLynette? Yes. It's a trick of camera perspective which makes it appear otherwise.
MLN 1029.15 / Antique Solid Mahogany Dresser, Vanity, Bathroom Vanity
ATTRIBUTES: This is the most divine old dresser we've seen in a very long time. It's of solid mahogany in a clean, elegant, arts & crafts style more usually seen in oak. The shaping is superb, with slim legs ending in little brass fittings and original glass casters. There are drawers, dovetailed of course, and stunning original hardware in classic arts & crafts style. Two glove box drawers sit atop the two side pedestals, and then there's that deep well in the center, practically bowing to the magnificent oval beveled mirror. Hand cut oval beveled mirror. We once priced a replacement for an old medicine cabinet. Cost of a 14" oval mirror? $238. Crazy, yes? So the cost of an oval mirror like this one would probably exceed our opening bid. Beautiful piece of furniture, original finish, ready to go.
POTENTIAL USES: It's a magnificent dresser and would be an elegant addition to any bedroom. With a plump little tuffet, it's a superb vanity, but we can also envision this beauty used in the entryway of the house, with that deep center well holding an enormous flower arrangement, fresh every week. What a beautiful thing to welcome you home every day. Wouldn't it be gorgeous, too, fitted with a vessel sink in that center? We've used a French 1920s art deco washstand as the vanity in one of our bathrooms. It is absolutely exquisite and never fails to win compliments from our guests. This incredible dresser is versatile as well. What could be better? Beauty and utility, all in one.
ORIGIN: England, earliest 1900s
CONDITION: Fine condition, very well constructed, with a fully finished back. Two areas of impression in the wood, tops of both pedestals, left and right. See last photos for a clear view. These could be restored if you like, or you can just consider it part of this elegant thing's age and experience.
