You are bidding on a pair of binoculars from around 1890-1920. Made in either German or Swiss made, they're actually military-type "spotter" binoculars. My Dad got these from his father and used these for artillery spotting during WWII; he left them with my Mom prior to his capture. These are low-power (about 3-4x) binoculars were designed to be "pocket binoculars" for field artillery spotters (small enough to hide and not be called a spy) this pair however is marked “MONOPOL” on the front. It has brass housing with leather handgrips. Lenses are undamaged and focus up, the optics are in verygood condition. Dimensions: Measures 2.8" tall and 3.7" wide. Condition: Lenses are in good condition with no chips, cracks or scratches. Brass housing has paint wear on the eyepieces and high points. It comes with the original leather case that is in need of restoration at best. This is a true collector’s piece. (as far as the story was told to me, I could not verify it) |
