1917 $1.00 LEGAL TENDER NOTE (LARGE)

THE "SAWHORSE"

This is a distinctively different note from most U.S. RED SEAL NOTES as it is one of the HARDER TO FIND--LARGE SIZE NOTES, the 1917 $1.00 LEGAL TENDER US NOTE in CHOICE VERY FINE condition in my opinion, but you can judge for yourself with the photos above which you can enlarge.  It has the signature combination of ELLIOTT-BURKE.  It was issued years before the introduction of small size notes that we use today. 

The note is crisp and very clean despite its age, and with 4 sharp intact corners, it has good color contrast with no ink, tears, no pin holes and no writing.   You can see folds, flattened wrinkles and only minor soiling on the reverse.  This is a really nice looking example of old paper money especially for a large size note which are often pretty worn out when they are found.  The Red Seal is Large and on the left side.   And check out the fine art work of these old large notes, to the left side of George Washington is a scene of Columbus aboard the Santa Maria with his crew as they sight land in 1492.  The quality is so good that you can see the lines on the wooden deck below Chris's feet!

Book value is $125.00 in Very Fine condition, $350 in CU, so place a bid and enjoy a bargain.   Some retailers and Shop at Home TV charge much more that book value for this note when they can find it.  This note often sells for well over book value.  It routinely brings over $150 on Ebay in Very Fine condition!  So if you need it to add something special to your Red Seal Note collection this may be just the opportunity, don't let it slip by.  This note has gone up in by book price by over 10% in the last year alone.
